Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) is committed to growing and supporting our Aboriginal health workforce and delivering trusted care and better health for Aboriginal people on the Central Coast.  We are seeking an Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer to act as a vital advocate and trusted link for Aboriginal patients and their families - helping them navigate the hospital system with respect and understanding.
 

About the Opportunity

The Liaison Officer role will be based predominantly at Gosford Hospital, with occasional visits to Woy Woy and Wyong Hospital. Working Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm these shifts give you time to connect with community while enjoying life on the beautiful Central Coast. 

In the role you will –

  •  Provide flexible, holistic, and culturally safe support to Aboriginal patients admitted to the hospital, ensuring their cultural needs are recognised and respected.

  • Act as a trusted advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families, supporting them to navigate the hospital system with confidence and dignity. 

  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to improve health outcomes through education, engagement, referrals, advocacy, and the promotion of cultural safety across the hospital environment.

  • Participate in health promotion initiatives, offering basic health screening, culturally appropriate advice, and referrals to both internal and external services.

  • Support Aboriginal patients to understand their care, treatment options, and health pathways, ensuring they feel heard, respected, informed, and empowered in decision‑making. 

  • Play a key role in discharge planning, providing culturally safe and holistic input to support smooth transitions back into community and continuity of care.

About You

  • You identify as Aboriginal, are of Aboriginal descent, and are accepted by your community, meeting Section 14 exemption criteria.
  • You hold or are willing to pursue a Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a relevant health qualification.
  • You have strong computer skills, can manage patient records, produce reports, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • You understand key Aboriginal health issues and policies affecting the Central Coast community.
  • You are resilient, professional, and a clear communicator who works well in teams, supporting patients and families with empathy and cultural respect.
