Where you'll be working
The Sutherland Hospital and Community Health Service is located in the Sutherland Shire ('the Shire'), approximately half an hour drive south of Sydney, in the suburb of Caringbah. The Sutherland Hospital was established in 1958 and is a major metropolitan hospital and teaching hospital. The hospital motto, from its inception, is "Endeavour to Serve".
We offer a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services to the residents of the Sutherland Shire. We have 375 beds and each year we care for more than 50,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 28,000 patients are admitted to our hospital.
What you'll be doing
The Category Specialist will assist in managing the SESLHD Procurement Unit and will be responsible for all procurement and management activities associated with defined clinical/non-clinical categories, ensuring compliance with the NSW Health Goods and Services Procurement Policy and other relevant policies, regulations and standards.
The Category Specialist will ensure the provision of all contracts and vendors support in relation to all local and state-wide Agreements pertaining to the categories. The Category Specialist will be required to possess detailed knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Health requirements and processes and to provide high level advice and guidance to internal staff and other stakeholders in relation to procurement and contracts.
The position will take an active role in assessing and monitoring the effectiveness of the Districts controls, procedures and processes in mitigating fraud and corruption risk, and any risks to the SESLHD reputation that might arise from procurement and contract activities

Selection Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in procurement or relevant equivalent work experience, particularly in the health industry
- Demonstrated detailed knowledge of procurement management including contracts, tendering and product selection activities as well as financial management
- Demonstrated high-level analytical and problem-solving skills that lead to the identification and development of procurement opportunities within relevant category management disciplines
- Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication aptitude and stakeholder management skills including strong negotiation skills and the ability to provide recommendations to internal clients
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior management and other key stakeholders
- Experience of responding to a range of customer enquiries and determining the appropriate response in a complex work environment, including a commitment to quality improvement initiatives in workplace practices and procedures
- High level of computer literacy - including MS Office suite, Oracle procurement systems or other software applications
- Current driver license (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
