What you'll be doing

We are looking for dynamic, innovative individuals to help us lead, direct and develop the Health Information Services now and into the future at the brand new Sydney Children’s Hospital Health Information Unit. We are entering into an exciting period, with the introduction of an electronic medical record as a part of our Memory 
Strategy. 

Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick is a part of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network (SCHN) together with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Our aim is to provide relevant, innovative and dynamic health service for all children attending our facilities. 

The full time transcriptionist is responsible for typing dictated outpatient letters in a timely manner, reporting on turnaround times and maintaining typing statistics for transcription department and mailing letters, as well as some general medical record department duties as listed below. 

All clerical staff in the HIU are multiskilled, and although the majority of time will be in the transcription service you may also be asked to assist in other clerical duties in the HIU as required. 

All processes in the HIU involve working with both an electronic and paper based Medical record.

  1. Ability to type 50 words per minute and experience with digital Dictaphone typing
  2. Previous experience in a Medical Records Department or similar clerical environment.
  3. Well-developed customer service skills and attention to detail.
  4. Experience with Document Imaging and PowerChart; excellent PC skills such as Word.
  5. Ability to work under pressure in a team environment as well as ability to work independently.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Proven reliability and punctuality.
  8. Sound knowledge of medical terminology or currently working towards attainment.
