Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care. 

Nepean Hospital is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our maintenance team and support the delivery of quality health services to the community. The role provides a comprehensive carpentry maintenance service across Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, responding to job requisitions and attending to maintenance needs that enable the hospital to perform its core medical services.

The successful applicant will carry out works associated with new installations, extensions, fixtures and fittings across offices and clinical areas, review architectural drawings for proposed projects, assist other trades and support the maintenance management team as required. This position also participates in an after-hours on-call emergency maintenance roster and plays a vital role in ensuring hospital facilities remain safe, functional and fit for purpose.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Current trade qualifications in Carpentry
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of current WHS Act and relevant regulations as well as knowledge of current relevant Australian Standards
  3. Demonstrated experience and ability with design, build, install and repair of structural woodwork, flooring, doors, locks, ceilings and cabinetry
  4. Demonstrated ability to be able to read plans specifications and drawings, estimate cost, time and materials of carpentry projects and be able to perform heavy physical labour
  5. Availability to be on an afterhours call roster and to attend works at the NBMLHD after hours when called upon
  6. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and must be able to take oral and written direction from the maintenance management and maintain a co-operative working relationship with management, other trades staff and hospital staff and maintain the Health Code of Conduct
  7. Valid current Class C Drivers Licence and willingness to travel as directed
  8. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and computerised maintenance management systems
