We are seeking applications from enthusiastic and committed candidates for the Anaesthetics Career Medical Officer position at The Sutherland Hospital for commencing 3 August 2026.
 

Where you'll be working

The Sutherland Hospital is a 375 bed Major Metropolitan Teaching Hospital affiliated with the University of NSW, located in the Sutherland Shire 25 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. A 44 bed Emergency Department which includes 3 resuscitation bays, dedicated Adult and Paediatric Fast Track areas, an 8 bed ED Short Stay Unit, a collocated Radiology Department with CT scanner. The addition of 60 new acute inpatient beds, including 6 additional ICU beds and a 16 bed General Medical Unit. There are 24hr diagnostic services and excellent support from Mental Health, ICU and community/aged care services and nursing staff. Sutherland Hospital provides a 24/7 Interventional Cardiology service. Inpatient services include most subspecialties; General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Oncology, Renal, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Mental Health.

What you'll be doing

The Duty Anaesthetist, Career Medical Officer (CMO) will support the running of the anaesthetic department by contributing to all aspects of clinical service and governance activities at the level expected of a senior ANZCA trainee or Provisional Fellow.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Must hold unrestricted general registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA
  2. Demonstrated clinical experience in anaesthesia of greater than 5 years and ability to work at the level of a senior registrar both independently and in a semi-supervised capacity and practice in accordance with ANZCA guidelines
  3. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills as well as the effective use of information technology in the delivery of clinical care
  4. Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development in the field of anaesthesia
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching of junior medical and nursing staff
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality assurance and improvement activities
  7. Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety including health screening and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment
