The primary purpose of this position to provide anaesthesia care in a complex clinical environment. This will be done under supervision appropriate to the level of training of the applicant and in line with recommendations of the training program of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) or as part of the CICM or ACEM training programme or Diploma of Rural Generalist Anaesthesia , where this is applicable. The position would be based at Hawkesbury District Hospital.
The Career Medical Officer is expected to extend their knowledge and skills in managing anaesthesia across multiple
sub-speciality areas of anaesthesia to meet the professional standards set by ANZCA. They are required to deliver
anaesthesia, perioperative care and pain management services inside and outside the operating rooms and to
perform other duties during rotations to other areas as directed. The Career Medical Officer will participate as a
multidisciplinary team member across key areas of anaesthetics including:
• anaesthesia and sedation (including obstetric anaesthesia where relevant)
• regional anaesthesia
• airway management
• pain medicine
• perioperative medicine
• resuscitation
• trauma and crisis management
While this role is advertised as full-time, applications from candidates seeking part-time or flexible working

Essential requirements
MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in
an appropriate registration category.
• Completion of a minimum of 5 postgraduate years or more as a medical officer in an Australian, or
equivalent, acute hospital setting and practiced Anaesthesia in an Australian Hospital, or equivalent, for a
minimum of 2 years out of the past 3 years (accredited or unaccredited).
• Demonstrated capacity to perform clinical anaesthesia duties and responsibilities with minimal clinical
supervision.
• Preparedness to undertake all aspects of the role as described in the position description, including, but
not limited to, participation in after-hours rosters and assistance to other departments (e.g. Emergency
Department) as directed by the Head of Anaesthetics.
• This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency.
If the incumbent's registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must
be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
• Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
• To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the
NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases
Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
