About the Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled & self-motivated Associate Engineer (Cloud & Hybrid Database) to support the design, implementation and support of scalable, resilient database solutions that bridge traditional on-premises infrastructure with modern cloud platforms.
This is a hands-on role ideal for a mid-level engineer with experience in database administration within complex, mission critical enterprise environments. As an Associate Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimising NSW Health's database infrastructure, enabling secure, high-performing and cost-effective technical solutions that support evolving business needs.
In this role, you will:
- Provide day-to-day operational and DBA support for our customers across NSW Health using ServiceNow
- Monitor and optimise performance, availability, and capacity of NSW Health's database systems, implementing proactive measures to maintain operational excellence
- Contribute to the deployment and management of database solutions hosted in on-premise, public cloud (Azure and AWS) and hybrid environments
- Assist with the build and maintenance virtualised environments (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) and enterprise-grade container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including cloud architects, senior DB engineers, server engineers, storage engineers and network engineers to implement & support hybrid database solutions
- Assist with the development and maintenance of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Ensure compliance with security policies, regulatory requirements, and enterprise standards across all environments.
- Contribute to the maintenance of comprehensive documentation for system architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
This role is internally referred to as Associate Database Engineer
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is familiar with service delivery and operational support in an ITIL environment
- Has proven experience in Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL and PowerShell scripting
- Has proficiency in public cloud platforms (Azure and AWS), particularly DBaaS offerings, including IaC, Terraform, and strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash
Has awareness and understanding of Agile delivery principles (with practical Kanban or Scrum experience highly desirable)
