About The Opportunity 
This is a senior leadership position with a unique opportunity to shape the future of health service delivery across the district. This position combines strategic influence with hands-on service design, giving you the chance to make a real and lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of our community.

The Associate Director leads the Planning Unit, which is responsible for developing and designing services that respond to changing community needs. As part of the Strategy, Planning and Research Directorate, the role plays a pivotal role in shaping the District’s future. This includes providing strategic advice, setting direction, and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

The position works closely with a wide range of stakeholders. Internally, this includes the executive team, senior managers, and clinicians. Externally, the role engages with senior leaders across NSW Health, government agencies, service providers, and community representatives. The ideal candidate will be a trusted and collaborative leader, capable of fostering innovation and encouraging rigorous evaluation. They will promote open and respectful dialogue, support continuous learning, and build a highperforming team culture that embraces constructive change and professional growth.

 

What You'll Be Doing
The Manager, Planning is responsible for leading service and strategic planning for South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD). 
  
The position holder will establish strong relationships with the executive, senior managers and clinicians throughout the District, as well as a broad range of external stakeholders. Externally this position confers with other senior managers within NSW Health, government organisations, clients and service providers. These contacts are necessary for the positions to fulfill the responsibilities within SWSLHD and to participate effectively in the development of planning and service development functions both within the LHD and the State. The position holder also must ensure compliance with legislative and operational requirements and keep abreast of leading practice initiatives and reforms.

  1. Masters in a related field (such as Health Services Planning or Health Services Management) or significant related experience.
  2. Extensive experience in health services planning at an LHD, State or Regional level with the ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders internal and external to the organisation.
  3. Effective and proven leadership and staff management skills including the ability to develop, direct and lead a committed team to achieve organizational objectives.
  4. High level analytical skills, statistical understanding and ability to provide high level advice regarding resources allocation, policy and models of health service delivery.
  5. Demonstrated experience in corporate level strategic planning.
  6. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
