This rewarding role offers the opportunity to work primarily within our aged care facility, supporting residents to maintain their wellbeing, dignity and quality of life. At times, you may also assist within the Emergency Department, providing valuable exposure across different areas of healthcare. With morning and afternoon shifts available and no night shifts required, this position offers excellent flexibility while allowing you to make a genuine difference in the lives of patients and residents. You will be supported through a comprehensive orientation program, ongoing guidance from experienced Educators and the Health Service Manager, and a welcoming team committed to your success.

Nestled in the heart of the Upper Hunter, Merriwa offers the perfect blend of country charm, community connection and relaxed rural living. Located along the iconic Golden Highway between Newcastle and Dubbo, Merriwa Multi Purpose Service is a welcoming and diverse healthcare facility where your contribution truly makes a difference. This 24/7 healthcare service provides a broad and rewarding clinical environment, featuring 14 aged care beds, 8 acute beds, a dedicated palliative care bed and 2 Emergency Department beds within a close-knit facility. Working at Merriwa MPS offers the unique opportunity to build meaningful relationships with residents, patients and the local community while gaining valuable experience across aged care, acute care, emergency and palliative services within a supportive rural healthcare setting.
What You Will Be Doing
As an Assistant in Nursing, you will support residents and patients with their daily care needs while working collaboratively with nurses and the multidisciplinary team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with personal care and activities of daily living
- Supporting residents to maintain comfort, dignity and independence
- Assisting nursing staff with patient care activities
- Observing and reporting changes in resident and patient wellbeing
- Contributing to a safe, welcoming and person-centred care environment
- Supporting care delivery within aged care and, where required, the Emergency Department
About you
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Assistant in Nursing who is passionate about providing high-quality care and supporting older people within the community.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Certificate in Individual Support (Ageing) or equivalent aged care qualification
- Experience working within an aged care environment
- A caring, compassionate and patient-centred approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- A commitment to providing respectful, high-quality care
Essential requirements:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA

To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
