Nepean Hospital is seeking motivated and compassionate Assistants in Midwifery (AiM) to join our Casual Pool within the Maternity Unit. This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals currently undertaking Midwifery studies to gain hands‑on clinical experience in a supportive and dynamic Maternity environment.
The Assistant in Midwifery works under the supervision of a Registered Midwife, supporting women, newborns and families across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care settings. This role will see you assist Midwives with the delivery of safe, high‑quality Maternity care, support women and newborns with activities of daily living and comfort measures, assist with basic clinical tasks within scope, including observations and documentation, maintain a clean, safe and well‑stocked clinical environment, promote culturally safe, woman‑centred and family‑focused care and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary Maternity team.
You will bring to this role a genuine interest in women’s health and maternity care, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively within a team and follow clinical direction and a commitment to NSW Health values and patient‑centred care.

What you will bring to the role:
- Currently enrolled as a 2nd year first semester or 3rd year in an Undergraduate Midwifery Program.
- Able to demonstrate ability to organise and prioritise work.
- Commitment to women-centred Maternity care
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work a variety of shifts including night duty and weekends with a minimum of 2 shifts/week.
- Demonstrated evidence of complying with Immunisation category A.
