About the Role

You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.

The Holistic Early Intervention Team (HEIT) provides recovery oriented community mental health care to young people with significant emerging mental challenges and those who have been identified as being “ultra-high-risk” for developing a psychotic disorder. Join a contemporary early intervention team in providing essential care to young people with serious mental health challenges.

To provide effective care during the critical early phase of illness. This involves proactive engagement and initiation of clinical therapies.
To reduce the duration of untreated psychosis, limit the impact of a first episode of psychosis, foster hope that recovery is possible, and maximize the quality of life of consumers, carers, and their families. To work in partnership with other agencies to provide psychosocial interventions aiming for maximal symptomatic and functional recovery and prevention of relapse.

This position is within the Primary Health Network’s targets of ensuring that your people have access to specialist mental health services as early as possible. It is funded to enhance the provision of clinical and consultancy services which facilitate greater integration between EIP and headspace, and improve pathways to care for people who are at risk of psychosis  (primary target group) and at risk of serious mental illness (severe depression or anxiety, major mood disorder, borderline personality disorder, disordered eating) who would not access usual mental health services and can be/are supported in primary care.

This will include:

Assessment at Headspace; consultation of more complex youth mental health presentations.
Outreach with Headspace (e.g. home visits).
Collaborative care co-ordination and targeted interventions for young people identified at Headspace (Camperdown) as being “at risk” of developing a psychotic disorder.
