About Our Role - Third Year Core
This position is for a Cardiology Trainee in their 3rd year of Advanced Cardiology Training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). The position will involve core cardiology duties as well as participation in after-hours trainee on call. The position is held between the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sutherland Hospital. This position provides the Advanced Trainee with a very wide range of cardiology experience, working with very experienced Cardiologists in different environments.
You will provide effective clinical management of patients, working under the supervision of Specialist Cardiologists to care for patients presenting or referred with potential cardiac disease, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures, maintaining adequate medical records, organising and interpreting appropriate investigations.
You will medically manage conditions such as acute and chronic coronary disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease including endocarditis, and hypertension, with initial management of arrhythmias and pericardial disease, basic adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension, and prevention of heart disease; and undertake supervised general medical management of patients admitted to the Cardiology department.
You will undertake dedicated terms for procedures including coronary angiography, echocardiography, electrophysiology and other procedural and clinical aspects relevant to Cardiology. You will also be expected to make independent decisions on patient care and duly consult with the responsible consultant Cardiologist in a timely manner according to clinical urgency.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of two years of advanced training in Cardiology with RACP and entering or in 3rd year of Advanced Cardiology training.
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing Advanced Training education, excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement, research and teaching in Cardiology with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrates ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care.
- Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team - diligence, punctuality, organization, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills, team work.
- Demonstrates excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and nonmedical colleagues.
- Commitment to continuous quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Proficient in performing and reporting transthoracic echocardiograms and diagnostic coronary angiograms.Appropriate log book and excellent appraisals under two years approved advanced training in Cardiology with the RACP.
