What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Sydney Local Health District's Public Health Unit Trainee (STP-funded) role is to develop skills and expertise in a range of public health functions, including communicable diseases, environmental health, epidemiology, emergency management, and immunization. The PHU employs two full-time advanced trainees in Public Health Medicine. Please note that these positions are funded via the STP program and accredited for training with the Royal Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine. As such, applicants MUST either be accepted into OR eligible for the public health training program of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.

Uniquely, these positions also include a six-month placement with either the Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) or the Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network (CESPHN). Trainees without previous experience in a public health unit will usually undertake their first half-year of training in the Public Health Unit. Trainees on a placement outside the Public Health Unit may be required to return to the Public Health Unit in the event of a public health incident, including any escalating operations relating to response to CD outbreaks. The appointment of a trainee to a specific placement will be made by the Clinical Director, Public Health, in consultation with the trainee, and the placement supervisor, who will act as a co-supervisor during the trainee's rotation.
