If you possess a passion for caring for our most vulnerable and frail elderly community then this exciting opportunity to join the medical team in the Geriatric Department at our hospital is waiting for you. You will join the specialist team of Geriatricians to deliver a holistic patient centered care. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team, in a brand new purpose build Geriatric Ward and learn from our highly skilled and dedicated Geriatric Specialists to ensure Hornsby’s continued grade ‘A’ rating in providing clinical excellence to the community.

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a major metropolitan teaching hospital. Patients can access a range of services including coronary care, intensive care, orthopaedics, general medicine, surgical, obstetric, respiratory, rehabilitation, paediatric, maternity and emergency care. The hospital also provides a wide range of outpatient services including allied health, dental and podiatry clinics, child, adolescent and family health, drug and alcohol, health promotion and rehabilitation and aged care. An acute mental health service is co-located at Hornsby Hospital. The new $265 million Stage 2 redevelopment was officially opened in June 2022.

What you'll be doing
To provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.
For the Advanced Trainee in Geriatric Medicine, there are now three roles for the equivalent of 3 X 1.0 FTE Advanced Trainees:
- Acute in-patients - 4 months in ACE (Acute Care of the Elderly) working alongside general medical teams.
- Community - 4 months in GRACE (Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation) working in acute geriatric outreach.
- Orthogeriatrics - 4 months caring for elderly patients admitted under the Orthoapedic team.
There is also the opportunity to conduct supervised reviews in the Outpatient setting - memory clinic with ACE and Osteoporosis/Fracture Prevention Clinic with Orthogeriatrics.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- High level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience
- Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
- Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in Geriatrics.
