Where you’ll be working

Our role would be based at Prince of Wales Spinal Injuries Unit – the only co-located Acute Spinal Rehab facility in the country – inclusive of experience reviewing patients from the Community in Specialist outpatient clinics.
What you'll be doing
Our successful candidate would gain experience in all aspects of Spinal Cord Injury rehabilitation across acute and sub-acute rehabilitation. As an Advanced Trainee, your goal would be to progress through the AFRM Training program towards obtaining Fellowship. Your objectives would be to:
gain learning and experiences in general and specialised terms, utilising evidenced based rehabilitation medicine principles
perform comprehensive rehabilitation assessments which include patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.
supervise general medical management of patients admitted/referred to the Department of Rehabilitation and build an integrated care plan with interdisciplinary teams and the department to achieve best patient outcome.
participate in consultative and outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings which may include hospital facilities and private consulting rooms.
liaise closely and effectively with consultants to allow the doctor to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable you to expand your areas of responsibility. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of minimum three (3) years postgraduate medical experience in Australian Health System with demonstrated experience and commitment in a rehabilitation setting.
- Demonstrated sufficient clinical experience in order to undertake the clinical duties for clinical rotations, and proficiency in basic and advanced life support.
- Demonstrated advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- Demonstrated advanced communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience.
- Demonstrated advanced good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
