About The Opportunity

Liverpool Hospital is recruiting for an Advanced Trainee to complement and enhance the current Endocrinology department.

Life at South Western Sydney Local Health District is rewarding, progressive and diverse and is always focused on achieving our Vision of Leading Care, Healthier Communities.

Where You'll Be Working

Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

What you'll be doing

Advanced trainees in Endocrinology provide expert medical care to inpatients and outpatients of the Endocrinology Medicine departments. They practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Endocrinologists to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to hormonal disorders.
Advanced trainees participate in outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings including hospital facilities and private consulting rooms. The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.
Close and effective liaison with consultants will allow the doctor to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable you to expand your areas of responsibility.  All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner.  All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
The advanced trainee in endocrinology medicine is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must:
• Have the ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.
• Be able to work co-operatively as a member and contributor in a complex multi-disciplinary team, including pro-active participation in team meetings and decision making processes.
• Be able to provide and participate in performance monitoring.

This training program includes placements within NSW Health and placements external to NSW Health. Depending on the circumstances of your current employment (if applicable) and the placement locations you are allocated to during the program, there may be an impact on portability of leave entitlements and continuity of service for the purposes of parental leave eligibility. Please contact your current and prospective employer if you would like to discuss how this may impact your individual circumstances.
