Where you'll be working

Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital featuring fifteen operating theatres, 550 adult beds and 101 paediatric beds. We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.
 

What you'll be doing
 

To provide a high standard of clinical care to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in the practise of General and Acute Care Medicine, whilst fulfilling the requirement of the RACP for Advanced Training in General and Acute Care Medicine. 

To provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments. 
 
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Eligible for Advanced Training in General and Acute Care Medicine, RACP by successful completion of both written and clinical examinations.
  3. Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  4. Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including effective assessment, care planning, care provision, case management and management of unstable patients.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment using excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgement and expertise.
  6. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with patients, their families, and medical and other health professional staff.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to General Medicine Advanced Training program. Applicants with a clear stated interest in General Medicine or Dual Training or who are already in an Advanced Trainee position in General Medicine should state this.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to education, research and teaching.
