Where you'll be working
Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital featuring fifteen operating theatres, 550 adult beds and 101 paediatric beds. We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.
What you'll be doing
Non-core advanced trainee preferably in their 3rd or 4th year of training, specialising in Advanced and Therapeutic endoscopy. Responsibilities include:
• Some Inpatient care of gastroenterology patients.
• Receive all regional calls for referral and transfer of patients requiring tertiary level Endoscopic investigation and management.
• On- call responsibilities.
• ED referrals for new admissions.
• Weekend ward rounds: general gastroenterology patients and consultations.
• This would involve a 1 in 4 roster.
• Endoscopy Lists. One routine and several Advanced lists including ERCP and other therapeutic procedures.
• One outpatient clinic weekly.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Successful completion of first and second core years of advanced training in gastroenterology. Have completed FRACP Part 1. Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team - diligence, punctuality, organization, record keeping, time management problem solving skills, teamwork.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care.
- Demonstrated Commitment to ongoing Advanced Training education, research and teaching.
- Commitment to continuous quality improve.
