WSLHD - Advanced Trainee - Menopause and Osteoporosis Service, Endocrinology
An exciting opportunity to help direct a new menopause service at Westmead Hospital is currently being advertised. This opportunity is targeted at advanced trainees in endocrinology as an elective year at a part-time fraction (0.4 FTE). The role will involve engaging relevant departments at Westmead Hospital to help establish an inaugural menopause service, under the auspices and in association with the current Osteoporosis service, directed by A/Prof Christian Girgis.

What you'll be doing
This role will involve an initial period of planning a menopause service, meeting relevant stakeholders and departments across WSLHD, including speciality medical services, allied health and primary care to develop a Menopause model of care, based at Westmead Hospital. Subsequently, two clinics per week dedicated to treating women with menopause-related symptoms and post-menopausal osteoporosis will be undertaken.

The Training Program
This is currently an unaccredited role, suitable as a part-time elective for final year advanced trainees in endocrinology.
Training Opportunities
A number of training opportunities will be available
- Attendance at grand rounds and the academic activities of the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Westmead Hospital
- Weekly Journal club
- Research opportunities in bone, mineral medicine and menopause
- Regular attendance of osteoporosis and menopause clinics with one-on-one supervision
- MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of at least four postgraduate years and passed written and practical components of the Divisional Clinical Exam (DCE)
- Demonstrated interest in Endocrinology
- Understands the role of the endocrinologist in complex clinical settings, identifying current major issues in endocrine research, clinical practice or health care delivery.
- Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team - diligence, punctuality, organisation, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills and team work.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues. Demonstrates ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education, research and teaching. Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
