The General Medicine Advanced Trainee provides high standard of clinical care to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in the practise of General and Acute Care Medicine, in the context of fulfilling the requirement of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for Advanced Training in General and Acute Care Medicine.
What you'll be doing
- Providing a high standard of clinical care to patients in the area of General Medicine to uphold quality service delivery whilst building on skills to become competent in the practice of General Medicine in accordance with RACP advanced training requirements.
- Ongoing management of in and out patients with complex medical diseases.
- Performance of clinical procedures/techniques using specialty medical equipment and devices to provide high quality patient care.
- Gaining an advanced knowledge and competence in diagnosis and treatment of complex medical diseases.
- Participating in 24/7 rotating roster of days, evenings, nights and weekends.
Where you'll be working
- Nepean Hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital and provides high-level inpatient and outpatient services for people of all ages.
- Inpatient services generally have the capacity to manage high complexity patients who require specialist care.
- Services provided include Emergency, Critical Care, Acute Medicine, planned and Emergency Surgery, Maternity, Neonatal, Paediatric Medicine and minor Surgery, Mental Health, Aged Care and Rehabilitation services, Drug and Alcohol, and a broad range of specialist outpatient clinics and services.
- Hawkesbury Hospital provides 24 hour emergency, medical, surgical, diagnostic, maternity, neonatal, paediatric, palliative, intensive and coronary care services.
- Hawkesbury Hospital is accredited for General Medicine Advanced Training for 12 months.
- Blue Mountains District Hospital is accredited for General Medicine advanced training for 6 months at a time.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Completion of at least four postgraduate years and successful completion of the examination requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent, and be eligible to undertake subspecialty training in General Medicine in Australia;
- Demonstrated commitment to training in General Medicine and related medical experience in relevant specialties.
- Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
- This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
- To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
Selection criteria
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in General Medicine and commitment to continuing professional development and self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
