About the Role

You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH). It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.
 
The Ambulatory Care Business Unit (ACBU) provides a centralised administrative service to a variety of RPAH outpatient and private clinics. Department Secretary roles within ACBU are responsible for delivering a high standard of administrative support to the operations of outpatient departments, including high level secretarial, administrative and advisory support in accordance with the operating requirements of ACBU at RPAH. This also includes providing a high standard of medical typing of reports in a timely manner, as well as coordinating the receipt, triage and review of General Practitioner and other referring specialist letters and referrals, and other general administrative support as necessary. 

This role will be working 8:00am to 4:30pm, preferably on Fridays. The ideal candidate will have a background in healthcare, strong administrative and customer service skills, be tech-savvy with the ability to quickly learn and use a range of systems and be confident working in a busy clinical environment. The successful candidate will provide secretarial and administrative support to the Newborn Department and its clinics. These include managing referrals, coordinating patient appointments, and providing high-quality administrative support.

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience in an administrative setting with established high level computer literacy and typing skills, including experience with dictaphone transcribing equipment or software, with a minimum typing speed of 60wpm.
  • Ability to work to support a Head of Department, independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of patient confidentiality guidelines and staff obligations regarding same.
  • Experience in: eMR/Powerchart; Microsoft Office suite; EA duties including answering phones, emails, filing, faxing and organising domestic/international travel; familiarity with Medicare billing protocols; procurement/stock ordering; Health Roster; and generating S1's, will be highly regarded.
