Hunter New England Health is seeking a reliable and organised Ward Clerk to join the Mixed Ward team at Maitland Hospital. This rewarding role provides vital administrative support across Medical, Surgical, and Orthopaedic services within a busy hospital environment.
This position offers valuable experience in healthcare administration and the opportunity to build your career within NSW Health while contributing to the smooth operation of a dynamic and patient-focused ward.
As a key point of contact for patients, families, carers, and clinical staff, you will provide professional, accurate, and timely administrative support to ensure high-quality service delivery and positive patient experiences.

About You
You are organised, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities with confidence. You have strong communication and customer service skills, a high level of professionalism, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Provide consistent, high-quality customer service as the first point of contact, both face-to-face and via telephone
  • Respond to email enquiries, manage patient contact details, and complete billing processes
  • Use computer platforms and electronic medical record systems to maintain accurate documentation and correspondence
  • Provide administrative support to clinical and non-clinical staff to support smooth day-to-day operations, including ordering and invoicing
  • Maintain organised and up-to-date filing systems in line with privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • Complete tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Prioritise workload effectively and perform duties responsibly within a fast-paced environment
  • Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrate behaviours aligned with the HNE Health Values Charter, NSW Health Code of Conduct, and Excellence Framework – Every Patient, Every Time
  • Support culturally respectful practices in line with HNE Health’s Closing the Gap strategy
