Are you organised, approachable and committed to providing excellent customer service? Join the ward administration team at Tamworth Hospital as a Ward Clerk and play an important role in supporting patients, families and the multidisciplinary care team.
As the welcoming first point of contact for the ward, you will help ensure communication, patient information and daily administrative processes run smoothly in a busy, person-centred environment.
About the role
As a Ward Clerk, you will provide efficient clerical and administrative support to the ward, working closely with the Nurse Unit Manager and nursing, medical and allied health teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming patients and visitors and providing professional customer service.
- Answering and directing telephone enquiries and communicating messages.
- Supporting patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
- Updating and maintaining accurate patient information and records.
- Preparing correspondence and ward documentation.
- Maintaining electronic and paper-based filing systems.
- Ordering ward supplies and processing invoices.
- Using electronic medical record and patient administration systems.
- Completing a range of general administrative duties to support the smooth operation of the ward.
- Maintaining patient privacy, confidentiality and information security at all times.
The position reports to the Director of Nursing & Midwifery and has no direct reports.
About you
We are looking for someone who is organised, adaptable and approachable, with the ability to remain calm and professional in a busy ward environment.
You will have:
- Demonstrated administrative and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, interruptions and deadlines.
- Confidence using computer software and electronic systems.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A strong commitment to privacy, confidentiality and respectful patient care.
No formal qualification, certificate or licence is essential for this position. Experience and knowledge of local NSW Health systems and processes can be developed through training and on-the-job support.
Support and development
You will receive a structured local orientation and ongoing support from your manager and team. Training will be provided in relevant electronic systems, ward workflows, privacy and confidentiality requirements, and local administrative processes.
