Join us in shaping healthier futures. Together we can do more.

We are proud to offer an exciting opportunity for a new Aboriginal Population Health Trainee to join the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District. Over the past 6 years, ISLHD has supported 3 trainees through this initiative, who have all gone on to build successful careers in the health sector. Now, we invite you to become part of the next generation of leaders in Aboriginal public health.

As an Aboriginal Population Health Trainee, you will take part in the NSW Health Aboriginal Population Health Training Initiative (APHTI), a three year, full-time, workplace based program designed to increase Aboriginal representation in the population health workforce. Throughout your traineeship, you will complete a variety of placements within ISLHD’s Public and Population Health Directorate (PPH), gaining hands-on experience in diverse public health settings.

You will also be closely supported by the ISLHD Aboriginal Health and Workforce Directorate, ensuring a culturally safe, connected, and empowering environment. This includes opportunities to build relationships with Aboriginal staff across the district and engage meaningfully with the Aboriginal communities across the four LGAs we serve.

The program includes part-time postgraduate study toward a Master of Public Health degree at a recognised NSW university, with costs covered by NSW Health.

If you’re passionate about making a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities, we encourage you to apply and take the next step in your public health journey.
