What you'll be doing
Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) Mental Health Services are committed to building a professional Mental Health Peer Workforce that supports consumers living with mental illness and distress in their recovery journey. The Mental Health Peer Workforce in MNCLHD is comprised of employees who have a lived or living experience of mental ill health, suicide and recovery, in additional to life and work skills.  The Peer Workforce is vital in providing peer support and guidance to consumers and insights from their personal lived experience perspective to colleagues of the Mental Health Service and other stakeholders.
The Assertive Suicide Prevention Outreach Service (SPOT) is part of the Towards Zero Suicides Initiative and aims to reduce deaths by suicide and suicide attempts by providing rapid, appropriate and compassionate support to people at risk of suicide in the community.  This contemporary service is staffed by peer workers with lived experience of suicide and clinicians who provide recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care as a multidisciplinary team. The service will run 7 days a week on a roster including after hours, weekends and public holidays.
The Peer Worker (SPOT) will be required to contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a quality service, in cooperation and collaboration with other relevant services and agencies. The Peer Worker will be required to work after hours and on weekends.

About You
You are a dedicated Peer Worker who draws upon your lived and living experience of mental health challenges, recovery, and suicide to provide authentic, hope-inspiring support to others. Guided by consumer-led recovery principles, you understand the importance of empowering individuals to identify their strengths, make informed choices, and define recovery on their own terms. Your ability to share your experiences in a safe, purposeful, and recovery-focused way helps build trust, connection, and confidence in those navigating their own mental health journey.

You are passionate about advocating for consumers and ensuring their voices are heard not only in their individual care but also in the development and improvement of mental health services. Through your understanding of the challenges people face when accessing support, you work to promote greater inclusivity, accessibility, and person-centred care across the mental health system.

With strong communication and relationship-building skills, you engage effectively with consumers, carers, clinical teams, and community stakeholders while maintaining professional boundaries and a recovery-oriented approach. Your organisational skills enable you to manage your workload efficiently, maintain accurate documentation, and utilise a range of software applications to support service delivery and consumer engagement.

You thrive both independently and as part of a collaborative team, contributing positively to the growth of peer services and the broader peer workforce. Committed to ongoing learning and professional development, including the completion of a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, you bring resilience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support others in achieving meaningful recovery and wellbeing. With a current Australian Driver Licence and the flexibility to travel, you are dedicated to providing accessible peer support across a variety of service locations and communities.
