Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and passionate Aboriginal Health Worker or Aboriginal Health Practitioner who is ready for a new adventure. As the Aboriginal Health Worker/ Practitioner, you will be able to provide, plan and deliver comprehensive, high quality patient care to our regional Griffith communities. The Aboriginal Health Worker role is non-clinical and provides a variety of services in a community and/or hospital settings. These services include advocacy, support, and liaison and health promotion. Aboriginal Health Workers also communicate with, and facilitate access to, other government and non-government organisations and support services in order to provide care that meets the social, emotional and cultural needs of the patient/client. This communication may occur during and/or after the person’s contact with the health service.
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner provides flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health services to Aboriginal Clients, inpatients and the community, to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide a range of direct clinical services as defined by the Scope of Practice for the community in which they work.
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner has to be multi skilled to be able to deliver an appropriate service to meet the needs of Aboriginal patients from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to act effectively as cultural brokers between the Aboriginal patients and hospital system.
As part of this position you will work with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal health staff to develop and implement programs and strategies for improving health outcomes for the Aboriginal individuals and communities.

About You:
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Skills in support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Knowledge and understanding of current Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander health
priorities. - Aboriginal Health Practitioners - Hold AHPRA registration
- Aboriginal Health Workers - Willingness to complete Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) and obtain AHPRA registration within a two year period of commencing in the role in order to transition to the Aboriginal Health Practitioner classification.
