Aboriginal Health Practitioner – Identified Position
This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.
This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

What you'll be doing
- To work across all areas of the Broken Hill Health Service including acute and non-acute with particular focus on ED presentations of Aboriginal people. Providing flexible, holistic and culturally appropriate health services to Aboriginal people and their families.
- This will be on a 7-day rotating roster (weekdays afternoon/night shifts; weekends day/afternoon/night shifts).

- To be of Aboriginal descent and be accepted to work within the Broken Hill community and with the ability to communicate with Aboriginal people from various communities. (NB applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW
- Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care Practice with current registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to liaise with other health professionals and external agencies to facilitate integrated care for Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, time management, and computer literacy including Microsoft package.
- • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting on the health of Aboriginal people, particularly mental health, drug & alcohol, psychosocial, domestic violence and/or sexual assault issues.
- Ability to work unsupervised, use own initiative and take a lead role in initiating and carrying out community development activities.
