Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is centrally located in Sydney, covering the city’s centre and inner west. The District encompasses parts or all of the following Local Government Areas: City of Sydney, Inner West Council, Canterbury-Bankstown, Canada Bay, Burwood, and Strathfield. SLHD spans a geographic area of approximately 126 square kilometres, serving a diverse and vibrant community.

  

About the Role

Sydney Local Health District provides a range of community health services to children, families and communities. These services help people stay healthy, get support early, receive treatment when needed, and manage their health over time.

 

The Aboriginal Allied Health Assistant helps Allied Health Professionals, such as Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists and Physiotherapists, support children and their families in the community to improve their health and wellbeing. Working under the guidance of Allied Health professionals, the Allied Health Assistant helps with therapy activities, prepares resources and equipment, supports group programs and individual sessions, keeps records up to date, and helps families connect with services.

  

This is an Aboriginal Identified Position. The role helps improve access to health services and health outcomes for Aboriginal children and families by offering culturally safe support and helping families connect with health services and their community.  

The role will be based across various Community Health Facilities to support Allied Health Professionals according to demand. This will include Croydon, Canterbury, Forest Lodge, Marrickville and Health One, Green Square.

Ideal Candidate

  • Equivalent work experience in an allied health or health related setting and / or successful completion of Certificate III or Certificate IV Allied Health Assistant or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer. 
  • Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required) as delegated by supervising Allied Health Professional/s. 
  • Has a current NSW Drivers Licence (P1 and P2 acceptable). 

    

This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such.
