This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of specialised Oncology and Palliative Care Speech Pathology services while working alongside experienced multidisciplinary professionals committed to excellence in clinical outcomes.

What you'll be doing 
In this senior role, you will provide high quality Speech Pathology assessment and intervention for patients with complex communication and swallowing needs within Oncology and Palliative Care services. You will exercise advanced clinical judgement while supporting service growth and contributing to operational and professional initiatives.

• Deliver comprehensive assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders
• Manage complex inpatient, outpatient, and community-based caseloads independently
• Educate patients, carers, and clinicians on communication and dysphagia management
• Support service development, KPI reporting, and quality improvement activities
• Supervise staff and contribute to student education and professional development

Essential Criteria

  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in Speech Pathology, eligible for practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia 

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Degree or equivalent in Speech Pathology, eligible for practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia and a current Driver's License.

  2. Extensive experience independently managing adult inpatients and outpatients in acute and subacute settings, including experience in instrumental assessment of swallowing including Modified Barium Swallow and a clinical appreciation of Fibreoptic Endoscopic Swallowing Assessment.

  3. Demonstrated experience managing swallowing and communication impairments for an oncology caseload, with strongly developing skills in head and neck radiation oncology for inpatients and outpatients. Familiarisation with laryngectomy is preferred but not essential.

  4. Demonstrated experience managing communication and swallowing disorders during supportive and end of life care.

  5. Demonstrated understanding of service coordination, evaluation, planning and development of local service delivery using quality improvement process and evidence based practice.

  6. Evidence of excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including advanced conflict resolution skills.

  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  8. Strongly developed time management and organisational skills
