Gunnedah Hospital is a newly redeveloped, modern public healthcare facility providing a range of services including enhanced 24/7 emergency care, inpatient and day surgery services, maternity care, outpatient services and allied health support.
About the role
As a Wardsperson, you will play an important role in supporting patients and clinical teams while helping maintain a safe, clean and welcoming hospital environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the lifting and movement of patients and providing support with personal care and hygiene.
- Undertaking cleaning duties in accordance with commercial cleaning practices and NSW Health policies and procedures, including terminal cleaning.
- Removing and managing soiled linen in line with infection prevention and control requirements.
- Maintaining cleaning equipment and stores to ensure supplies are available and ready for use.
- Checking and replacing ward oxygen cylinders to support the availability of safe and appropriate equipment.
- Performing portering and patient support duties, including assisting with patient transfers.
- Collecting pharmacy requirements and delivering cytotoxic waste in accordance with relevant procedures.
- Working collaboratively with the broader hospital team to maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment.
- Undertaking other duties as required to support the effective operation of the service.
The position reports directly to the Health Service Manager (HSM).

You will bring:
- A strong understanding of and commitment to confidentiality.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and cleaning agents.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability and willingness to work shifts.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A positive and respectful approach to working with patients and colleagues.
Previous experience in wardsperson, cleaning or patient care duties is desirable but not essential. Training and support will be provided to help you develop the skills required for the role.
