About the Role

As a Wardsperson, you will play an important role in supporting nursing staff and ensuring patients receive high-quality, customer-focused care across all hospital wards and departments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting nursing staff with patient care
  • Transporting patients safely throughout the hospital, including to medical imaging, pathology and between wards
  • Supporting patient transfers using beds, wheelchairs and other equipment
  • Transferring deceased patients to the mortuary respectfully and professionally
  • Performing general cleaning duties and maintaining equipment cleanliness
  • Assisting with hospital operations to support safe and efficient patient care
  • Communicating respectfully and effectively with patients, visitors and staff
  • Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams within the hospital

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates compassion, professionalism and respect
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Can remain calm and organised in a fast-paced environment
  • Is physically capable of performing the duties of the role
  • Is willing to work day and night shifts across a 7-day rotating roster

Previous experience in hospital services, patient transport or ward support is highly regarded but not essential.

What you'll be doing

John Hunter Hospital Wardspersons' work within a multidisciplinary team environment, including the hospital Wardsperson pool and speciality departments, to provide support to complement the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient care including transferring patients, assisting with patient positioning, couriering of items, cleaning and restocking of equipment.
