About the role
If you’re a Registered Nurse looking to step up into leadership, look no further than our Transition to Clinical Nurse Specialist 2 in AARCS. On any given day, you will provide advanced clinical care, leadership, and expertise in managing complex cases. A key part of your role will be delivering the first face-to-face assessment within one working day of referral, then working with families, carers, and service providers to develop safe discharge plans. You’ll balance competing priorities, manage patients exhibiting challenging behaviours, and advocate for older patients while guiding and supporting your colleagues. Each day will bring opportunities to demonstrate clinical leadership, apply advanced assessment and case management skills, and contribute to improving outcomes for older people.

You won’t be working alone. As a transitional role, you will be provided structured supervision, mentorship, and a tailored development plan to build confidence and prepare you for CNS2-level responsibilities. Supported education pathways and scholarships opportunities are available for the right candidate. In addition, you will be supported by the Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Educators and Deputy Director of Nursing. If you want to be part of a team that champions your growth, look no further than Armidale Hospital.

You may be offered a temporary Registered Nurse contract of up to two years to complete the required postgraduate study as part of the transition process if you do not currently hold the relevant postgraduate qualification. Please note that applicants who already hold a CNS2 qualification will be given first consideration during this recruitment process.

Where you’ll be working

The Acute to Aged Related Services (AARCS) team provides specialised care for older patients in acute inpatient settings who have complex care needs. This service is designed to deliver patient-centred, comprehensive assessment, care planning, and coordination to enable safe and timely discharges. Working within a collaborative, supportive culture, you’ll be part of a team that consistently advocates for older people and their families, ensuring their needs remain at the centre of care.

About you

You’re a compassionate, motivated Registered Nurse who is ready to specialise in aged and complex care. You bring curiosity, initiative, and a genuine passion for supporting older people and their families. You value teamwork, communication, and continuous learning, and you’re ready to grow into a leadership role that makes a tangible difference in patient outcomes.
