Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Unaccredited Trainee to enhance their surgical career with the Urology Team at Concord Hospital
What you will be doing
This position is open to qualified candidates who have experience and interest in Urology. You will be involved in the care and management of urology inpatients as well as attend urology outpatient clinics. This is a great opportunity for you to gain procedural competence in many aspects of urology surgery.
The Urology Unaccredited Trainee position is a dedicated 12 month role within the Urology unit. You will work in a well supervised and supportive environment under the guidance of the Consultants and SET Trainees and the Post Graduate Fellow. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to your skills, knowledge and experience. You will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to your urological experience and have the opportunity to be involved in teaching and research projects.
The Urology Department works closely with the Gynaecology Department and the Unaccredited Trainee provides supervision to the Intern or Resident Medical Officer in management of gynaecology patients.
This role is an ideal stepping stone to work towards acceptance into a recognised urology training program.
The Department of Urology
The Urology department at Concord Hospital currently comprises 8 consultant urologists with subspecialty expertise in uro-oncology, bladder/ pelvic floor dysfunction and reconstructive urology. The unit provides the largest range of urology subspecialty clinics/ services of any public hospital in NSW. There are daily operating lists and a full range of outpatient procedural clinics including urodynamics, flexible cystoscopy, pelvic floor imaging and intravesical therapy.

Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a principal referral facility and a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. We offer a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many recognised nationally and internationally as Centre’s of excellence. Major services include colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, bone and joint services, cancer services, haematology, respiratory medicine and sleep studies, molecular biology and genetics, and those provided through the internationally acknowledged Statewide Burns Service, in which Concord plays a major part. Concord Hospital maintains strong links to the veteran community.

- At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent). Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Previous clinical surgery experience and a demonstrated interest in Urology. Applicants must have evidence of progression toward surgical vocational training in accordance with USANZ recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated high level communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving.
- Commitment to own continuing professional development and self-education and Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.
- Demonstrated interest in teaching and research in urology.
