Seeking passionate Unaccredited Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology ready to be hands-on in a rural location!  

Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is seeking 3FTE experienced and enthusiastic Unaccredited Trainees to join our Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department in February 2026

 

  • Approx. 400 births per year  
  • This role has a 1in 4 arrangement for on-call support for emergency caesareans.  

This position is pivotal in providing medical care and expertise to the women and families of the Maternity Unit. This role reports directly to the O&G Staff Specialist with additional support from Visiting Medical Officers. The hospital cares for approx. 400 births per year.  This position has a 1 in 4 arrangement for on-call support for emergency caesareans which is shared between 2 other junior medical officers from the surgical and Orthopaedics department. This role does not have specific O&G Intern or RMO

What you'll be doing
 

To provide safe, effective and equitable medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for the initial assessment of patients and ongoing day to day management under the direction and supervision of the appropriate Consultants. The O&G Unaccredited Trainee has a responsibility for ensuring appropriate communication and documentation takes place as well as a responsibility for the training and supervision of junior medical staff.  This position is suitable for medical officers who plan to undertake a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  Departmental support will be provided if an application for training with the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is planned.  Full-time and part-time working arrangements will be considered. 

 
  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  3. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  5. Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  6. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  7. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
