Junior Medical Officer


The Trainee will provide effective clinical management of patients, working under the supervision of Specialist Cardiologists to care for patients presenting or referred with potential cardiac disease, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures, maintaining adequate medical records, organising and interpreting appropriate investigations.

The Trainee will medically manage conditions such as acute and chronic coronary disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease including endocarditis, and hypertension, with initial management of arrhythmias and pericardial disease, basic adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension, and prevention of heart disease; and undertake supervised general medical management of patients admitted to the Cardiology department.

What you'll be doing

  • Working within a Trainee Unaccredited position alongside accredited Cardiology Advanced Trainee’s.
  • Supervising JMO’s and Medical Students.
  • Participating in the afterhours on-call roster.
  • Looking after patients admitted within the Department of Cardiology.
  • Time set aside for Echo training.

Essential requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • At least three years' postgraduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
  • This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
  • Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to research as evidenced by meeting abstracts, published manuscripts.
  4. Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  5. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
