Essential requirements
Selection criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- At least three years' postgraduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
- Recent relevant clinical experience required to undertake the key accountabilities for this role.
- This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
- To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
Selection criteria
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to manage patients with ophthalmology conditions and trauma and attend pre-admission clinics, determine suitability for surgery, arrange appropriate tests and complete prescriptions for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to perform a systematic examination of the eye to diagnose injury and other conditions, including retinal examination.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret ophthalmic imaging modalities including radiographs and CT scans.
- Demonstrated ability to present an ophthalmic case history in a succinct manner to consultants.
- Demonstrated understanding of the role of paramedical staff – orthoptists, nurses and social workers in the care and management of the ophthalmic patient.
- Demonstrated skills to perform common ophthalmic procedures, including applanation tonometry, slit lamp examination, A and B scans
