Concord Emergency Department is seeking motivated Stage 1 Trainees to join our team and launch their ACEM training
The Hospital
Concord Repatriation General Hospital is proud of its healthcare service excellence and leadership in clinical care. The Department of Emergency Medicine
The Emergency department has 2 resus bays, 16 acute beds, a rapid access and fast track area and a new 5-bed ED short stay unit due for completion in late 2025. A high-end CT scanner has been installed adjacent to the resuscitation bays with a co-located radiology department.
Our department is a receiving centre for major burns, a primary PTCA centre for STEMI and is an acute stroke service referral centre. Our patient population is a cohort with complex medical conditions and high acuity presentations and a small proportion of paediatric attendances.
Concord ED is a major referral site and is accredited for 24 months of advanced ED training with Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). We provide opportunities to get involved in research and quality assurance activities and encourage consolidating the practice of evidence-based medicine.
The role
As an ED Stage 1 trainee you will be part of the dynamic team providing emergency care under the guidance of Emergency Consultants. We will provide you with the opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills in a well-supported environment to progress in your career in emergency medicine focused on medical complexity and high acuity presentations.
Concord ED has an established program for professional development and structured education. We pride ourselves on providing you with a supportive educational environment and flexibility to meet your professional development needs and training goals. This includes:
- Weekly ED registrar teaching (5-hours paid protected time)
- Rotations to develop specialised skills in anaesthetics, intensive care, trauma rotation at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Canterbury Hospital paediatrics (ED or ward), as well as burns and ultrasound special skills terms
- Dedicated primary examination preparation program delivered by an enthusiastic team of consultants.

- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- A minimum of four (4) full years of postgraduate general hospital experience including 2 years emergency medicine experience in an Australian Emergency Department or equivalent. Application for ACEM Selection into Fellowship Training in progress or confirmed.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
- Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in emergency medicine.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
