About the role: 
As a Trainee Clinical Coder, you will embark on a rewarding career pathway within Health Information Services, contributing to the accuracy and integrity of vital patient data across Maitland, Kurri Kurri, Cessnock and Dungog Hospitals. Reporting directly to the Health Information Manager, this developmental role has been established to strengthen and support clinical coding services across the district.

Working alongside and mentored by two Senior Advanced Clinical Coders and the Health Information Manager, you will develop specialist expertise in inpatient clinical coding, applying ICD-10-AM and associated classification standards to ensure the delivery of high-quality health information. Essential Requirements:

  • Completion of a recognised coding course (HIMAA or OTEN) or relevant tertiary qualification in Health Information Management including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in clinical classification using IC10 AM & ACHI and thorough understanding of Australian Coding Standards.
