An exciting opportunity to join South Eastern Sydney Local Health District!


We are offering an exciting and unique opportunity in 2026 to complete a nationally recognised Certificate III in Health Services Assistance while working as a Trainee Assistant in Nursing. The positions are 13 month temporary full-time positions, working a rotating 24hr, 7 day a week roster. The Theoretical component is conducted by TAFE NSW and trainees are paid to attend class. The program will commence on Monday 9 February 2026. 

Garrawarra Centre will appeal to Individuals who have a particular interest in working within the complex specialty of Dementia and who are committed to person-centred care. Garrawarra Centre thrives on providing quality, person-centred care for elderly people who have a primary diagnosis of Dementia and associated behaviours. We endeavour to maintain a home-like appearance and atmosphere. We work closely with experts in the field such as Geriatricians and Clinical Nurse Specialists to ensure a high level of care is provided.

Please do NOT apply if you already have a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Descriptor: Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) or equivalent, you will be ineligible. This is a traineeship to complete the qualification. 

What you'll be doing

Provision of support to the nursing team in the delivery of nursing care in an acute care environment as directed by the Registered Nurse 
Provide direct care activities to patients in accordance with the nursing care plan and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse 
Assist Registered and Enrolled Nurses with patient care interventions as directed 
Contribute to collecting accurate health care information and maintaining accurate health care documentation as required 
Communicate effectively with patients and other health care team members in accordance with appropriate protocol

Selection Criteria:
1. DO NOT HOLD A Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Descriptor: Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) or equivalent
2. Good written and verbal communications skills
3. Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
4. Ability to follow directions
5. Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain before commencement in February 2026
