About The Opportunity
The role is part of Campbelltown Hospital's Winter strategy, a 4-month contract. Terms available as part of the General Medicine Trainee role include: Respiratory, Renal, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Haematology, ID/Immunology, Geriatrics, General Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as one term of nights/relief per year. The Position is not part of a BPT network, and all terms are at Campbelltown Hospital. Unless there is exceptional demand for one speciality, all General Medicine Trainees are given their first choice of term at some point in the year. For each term, the Trainee is responsible for inpatients, consults, and outpatients in medicine as appropriate. The General Medicine Trainee reports directly to Consultant Physicians, and supervises an intern or RMO. Advanced Trainees are available in some specialities to provide additional supervision and support to the General Medicine Trainee.

This Role suits candidates pursuing a career as a Physician, in General Medicine or any Physician Subspecialty. Career Guidance and support are provided to all Trainees, particularly those seeking a future role within a BPT network. Individual entry is provided to candidates who are re-sitting an exam.

Support is provided to Trainees who are preparing for FRACP examinations. For Trainees preparing for the FRACP BPT written exam, support includes a ‘boot camp’ lecture series at the start of the year, followed by a comprehensive lecture series delivered by Consultant Physicians from all major specialities. For Trainees preparing for the FRACP BPT clinical exam, the education program includes six short case masterclasses (Cardiology, Respiratory, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, and Neurology), one trial exam, and a long-case roster with consultant Physicians. Saturday cases with Consultant Physicians, and weekday short case roster with Advanced Trainees.

As a large city hospital on the outer edge of Sydney, Campbelltown Hospital offers the complex case mix and specialty-based hospital structure of tertiary hospital, as well as the flat hierarchy and friendliness of a country or regional hospital. General Medicine Trainees are welcomed as an important part of the hospital and can expect to develop close relationships with the Consultant Physicians they work with. There is a track record of General Medicine Trainees progressing to Advanced Training in their chosen speciality at Campbelltown Hospital and beyond.
