Paediatric Intensive Care Trainee Medicine Trainee positions are available at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, for the 2026 Clinical Year, from 02 February 2026 to 31 January 2027.


Paediatric Intensive Care Trainee responsibilities include care of critically ill infants and children in ICU as well as assisting in the management of complex patients in the Emergency Department and general paediatric wards as required.  

During the period of work within SCH Children’s ICU, the trainee will: 
- Provide assessment and care of infants and children in SCH Children’s ICU  
- Communicate and collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary teams within and outside the hospital 
- Provide referral for appropriate continuity of care for infants and children 
- Respond and be involved in emergencies within Children’s ICU and those in other areas of  Randwick Campus as required 
- Perform interventions under supervision appropriate for level of training 
- Build on clinical knowledge and skills in the care of infants and children presenting to Children’s Emergency Department 
- Contribute to and be involved in education, quality improvement and research activities as required

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
  2. Minimum three years postgraduate experience
  3. 24 months paediatric experience or 24 months acute care experience; Paediatric ICU experience is preferable
  4. Demonstrated competence in paediatric life support with qualifications in APLS or equivalent. Please provide details
  5. Demonstrated clinical competency in procedures in paediatric environments including venepuncture, intravenous cannulation, and resuscitation. Please provide an example
  6. Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example
  7. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and commitment to College training and willingness to teach medical students, doctors in training and other health professionals
  8. Proven ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to organise, plan and manage competing tasks and ensure appropriate management of the patient. Please provide an example
