The level 4 Paediatric Department in Orange consists of a 14 bed Child and Adolescent Unit, with a 4 bed level 3 Special Care Nursery. We are one of the few rural facilities with a Child Psychiatrists and our ward is close to the 10 bed CAMHS in-patient unit, with whom we work closely. The Paediatricians run busy and mixed clinics every day, both in Orange hospital and throughout the region (Cowra, Forbes, Parkes, Condobolin).

It is the regional trauma centre for Western NSW and has a fully FACEM staffed ED. The Intensive Care Unit is the referral unit for the Local Health District. It is a level 5 unit and is staffed accordingly. There are a comprehensive range of specialist services including almost all medical and surgical services, with the exception of spinal, burns, cardiothoracic and neurosurgical. Of note, there are services such as interventional cardiology, and endovascular suite, and excellent on-site digital radiology, including a 3T MRI and 2 LINACs for radiation oncology. Orange Health Service also has acute specialists in cardiology, renal, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, haematology, neurology, ophthalmology and specialists in medical and radiation oncology. There are also local specialists in palliative care, nuclear medicine and dermatology.

Just three and a half hours from Sydney, Orange is one of Australia’s leading wine growing regions, with a love of fine food and coffee, and a burgeoning café culture. With good schools, and thriving farming and mining communities young professionals and families alike are drawn to this unique Australian Country Town. Perhaps unexpected is Orange’s involvement in the Arts with a vibrant musical and theatrical scene and is a fixture for touring international and Australian theatre and orchestral companies. Orange is rich in festivals highlighting local produce and featuring celebrity chefs from Sydney and Melbourne, while also having 3 “Hatted” restaurants in the area. The hospital is very much at the heart of the town, and new staff will find themselves welcomed by a friendly, cosmopolitan community.

Orange Health Service is a teaching hospital associated with the University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University. There is an excellent record of success in college professional exams and also future placement with metropolitan hospital training programs.
