About the Role:
An exciting opportunity is available for an SSD Instrument Technician to join the Sterilising Services Department at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital.

In this vital role, you will contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care by ensuring sterile instruments, equipment and reusable medical devices are expertly reprocessed and readily available to support Operating Theatres, the Day Procedure Centre, inpatient wards, outpatient services and other clinical areas.

As a key referral hospital for Armidale and the wider New England region, Armidale Rural Referral Hospital plays an important role in delivering surgical services to local and regional communities. Joining our dedicated perioperative team means becoming part of a workplace that values collaboration, respect, accountability and excellence in patient-centred care.

Offering an enviable work-life balance, this position provides the opportunity to enjoy the lifestyle benefits of the beautiful New England region, with no routine weekend or public holiday work outside of rostered on-call requirements.

As a valued member of the SSD team, you will be responsible for delivering a reliable and high-quality sterile supply service through:

  • Cleaning and decontaminating surgical instruments and reusable medical devices in accordance with established procedures and infection prevention standards.
  • Inspecting, assembling, packaging, sterilising, storing and distributing reusable medical devices using validated reprocessing methods.
  • Ensuring compliance with current AS 5369:2023 standards, manufacturer instructions, hospital policies and departmental procedures.
  • Safely operating specialised sterilising and reprocessing equipment, including washer-disinfectors, sterilisers and drying cabinets.
  • Maintaining sterile stock levels and rotation, supporting inventory management and contributing to efficient departmental workflows.
  • Accurately utilising electronic tracking and documentation systems to maintain traceability and quality assurance records.
  • Working collaboratively with perioperative, clinical and support teams to ensure the seamless delivery of sterile services across the hospital.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to play an essential role behind the scenes, helping ensure patients receive safe, effective care through the provision of expertly reprocessed medical equipment.
