Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.

We are seeking a dedicated and detail orientated individual to join our Sterilising Services Department. This vital role ensures that all equipment used in ward areas and operating theatres is cleaned and sterilised to the highest standards, supporting safe and effective patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the full sterilisation process of reusable medical and surgical devices, including cleaning, inspection, assembly, packing, and sterilisation. Quality management is a key component of the role, involving accurate record keeping and daily testing of machinery to maintain compliance and safety. The position also includes the collection and delivery of instruments to and from ward areas, contributing to the smooth operation of clinical services.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Able to work a flexible rotating roster
  2. Demonstrated understanding of infection control principles
  3. Physically capable of carrying out all duties, including handling chemicals, biological hazards, standing for extended periods of time, lifting, pulling and pushing loads
  4. Basic computer skills
  5. Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills
  6. Holds a certificate in Sterilisation Technology from TAFE
  7. Ability to work in a busy department whilst handling multiple priorities
