12-Month Fixed Term Appointments - Armidale Rural Referral Hospital | Hunter New England Local Health District

Help provide stability, leadership and outstanding patient care during a critical period of transition. Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking to recruit three full-time Emergency Medicine Consultants to join Armidale Rural Referral Hospital for a 12-month fixed-term period.

These appointments have been specifically established to support the Emergency Department during a planned period of service renewal and workforce transition. Working as part of a dedicated consultant team, successful applicants will play an important caretaker role, providing clinical leadership, supporting junior medical staff and ensuring continuity of safe, high-quality emergency care while a permanent consultant workforce is recruited and transitioned into the service.

This opportunity would suit Emergency Physicians who enjoy rural and regional practice, are seeking a fixed-term appointment, or are looking for a professionally rewarding role where they can make an immediate and meaningful contribution.

The Opportunity

As a Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine, you will:

  • Provide specialist emergency care across a broad spectrum of presentations.
  • Support the Emergency Department through a period of workforce transition and service stabilisation.
  • Deliver clinical leadership and mentorship to junior medical, nursing and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Work collaboratively with hospital leadership to maintain service performance and patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to a positive culture focused on clinical excellence, teamwork and patient-centred care.

 

These roles are designed to provide stability and experienced clinical oversight while the department undertakes a planned rebuilding phase.

The provision of contemporary, comprehensive and professional specialist services that are safe, effective, evidence based and patient centred. 
Mandatory requirements of this role include:

  • Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD
  • Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD.
  • Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD


 

  1. A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in Emergency Medicine
  3. Evidence of being a scholar, maintains medical professional development and has the ability to assist other staff, including trainees in the acquisition and development of knowledge.
  4. Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public.
  5. Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings.
  6. Evidence of being a manager, including ability to be flexible and cope with a changing health system, past leadership and management experience and previous safety and quality improvement activities.
  7. Evidence of being a professional, including continued professional development, peer review and other forms of clinical governance.
  8. Evidence of being an advocate, including contributions to improving individual and societal health.
