Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking an experienced Staff Specialist to join our Mental Health Services team!



We are looking for a Staff Specialist in Forensic Mental Health. The Director Forensic Mental Health holds responsibility as the medical leader and manager of the clinical services, medical staff and training, research and quality programs and other functions relevant to the Burudyara Concord Forensic Mental Health Unit. The Burudyara Concord Forensic Mental Health Unit is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility established as part of the NSW Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program.  Located on the grounds of the Concord Centre for Mental Health, the Unit provides 18 medium secure and 24 low secure forensic mental health beds, significantly expanding access to specialised care. 


The Director Forensic Mental Health is responsible for providing clinical leadership to, and clinical management in, Forensic Mental Health Services across SLHD Mental Health Service, contributing to development and ongoing implementation of the model of care and operational procedures of the Burudyara Unit and associated community based forensic mental health service, in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager, and in liaison with internal and external partner service partners.  


The Director will work within the SLHD Mental Health Service to ensure activities within the Department align to broader SLHD objectives and will work in collaboration with medical nursing and allied health colleagues to promote evidence-based practice and innovation for excellence in care and continuous improvement. 


In addition to their Head of Department role, Director Forensic Mental Health will provide clinical management of patients as part of the senior medical workforce and within their approved scope of clinical practice. 


As clinical leader, they will enhance clinical engagement and professional practice and standards, as well as a culture of respect for the individual, teamwork and continuous performance improvement.    
     
SLHD has also developed their Management Accountability Framework, to guide all department heads across all disciplines within SLHD in managing and supporting staff to build effective teams.    
    
The successful applicant will be registered or eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award, with Certificate of Advanced Training in Forensic Psychiatry.

 

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.
