The Role

The position of Director of Nursing and Midwifery at St George Hospital is a key member of the St George Hospital Executive, responsible for the Nursing and Midwifery Service within the facility and providing a shared responsibility for the leadership of all the staff of the facility.
 
This position is accountable for effective clinical and corporate governance, organisational and strategic management, service planning, development and management of efficient allocation and utilisation of nursing and midwifery workforce to assist in the delivery of high quality clinical services in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and disaster management. This position provides visible and accessible nursing and midwifery leadership promoting a positive workplace culture based on the NSW Health CORE values and the values of SESLHD. Promoting nursing leadership where individuals understand their roles and responsibilities and are empowered to be effective in their role.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and relevant post graduate qualifications.
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead, support and engage nursing and midwifery services at a facility wide level in a complex health environment.
  3. Proven ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the service/facility are managed within a defined budget to provide safe, compassionate, quality care that is culturally responsive
  4. Extensive experience leading clinical governance frameworks, optimising safe, high-quality patient care whilst ensuring models of care are contemporary and person centered.
  5. Proven experience contributing to strategic planning, service redesign and operational transformation to address performance variation, cultural issues or organisational challenges.
  6. Proven experience working at an executive management level utilising operational understanding of a large trauma hospital to optimise strategic capability by leading large scale change in a complex and unstable environment.
  7. Superior communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with all level of staff, patients and external agencies and the ability to positively influence organisational change.
  8. Current drivers licence and ability to travel when required.
