The SCoT for Research and C-L is responsible for trainee professional development and works with other SCOTs, HNET, Research unit (Research, Innovation and Training Hub), and supervisors to support trainees as well as supervisors to meet the research & training requirements of the College (RANZCP). This position also reports to and participates in Network Governance Committee meetings.
Applicants will:
- Have a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the RANZCP
Have an understanding of the RANZCP training program and the requirements for training
About the role:
- Support the establishment and governance of the Mental Health Research, Innovation and Training Hub, including advising on research leadership, priorities, capability development, and research governance.
- Facilitate and mentor clinician-led research activities, including research partnerships, grant proposal development, and research capacity building across HNE Mental Health Services.
- Guide HNET trainees through all stages of scholarly projects, including proposal development, research design, ethics approvals, assessment submissions, and publication requirements in line with RANZCP standards.
- Provide direct supervision for approximately 4-5 scholarly projects annually to support timely completion and progression to Fellowship.
- Collaborate with HNET Supervisors of Core Training (SCoTs), supervisors, MH-READ, the University of Newcastle, and other stakeholders to enhance research support and accessibility for trainees.
- Contribute to the HNET training program through formal education sessions, grand rounds, workshops, critical appraisal training, and Consultation-Liaison (C-L) Psychiatry education.
- Participate in Network Governance Committee and other HNET meetings, providing updates on scholarly projects and contributing to improvements in training outcomes.
- Develop, maintain, and disseminate resources and support materials for scholarly projects and C-L training.

Our Locations Include:
Manning Mental Health Service (Taree): Serving the Lower Mid-North Coast with inpatient care at Manning Hospital and a range of community services.
Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service: Delivering inpatient care at the Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah and community services across Newcastle and Charlestown.
Our services are structured by geographic areas and age groups - child & adolescent, adult, and older persons - and are supported by skilled multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, registrars, allied health, nurses, and administrative staff. Consultants work collaboratively and may provide peer support and cross-cover across the Greater Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions.
