SSEH Sonographer

Are you a specialised MSK Sonographer looking to be an integral part of a world class team. Sydney/Sydney Eye hospital (SSEH) is looking for an experienced MSK Sonographer to work closely with the hand unit, Emergency department and other departments to provide exceptional, high-quality diagnostic images for our referring teams.

The successful candidate will work up to 5 days per week. A qualification in Radiography is required for payment under the MRS award.

As well as MSK studies, SSEH perform General and Doppler studies.

The SSEH Hand Unit is a leading quaternary referral centre in NSW, specialising in the treatment of unique pathology, injuries and conditions affecting the hand and wrist. As a SSEH Sonographer you are an integral part of the hand team in providing an essential diagnostic and treatment planning imaging.

SSEH Radiology is closely aligned with Prince of Wales Hospital Medical Imaging Department. There is an opportunity to share skills across the two sites to enhance your role development.

Where you will be working
You will be working mostly at Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital Radiology department. There may be a requirement to go to other facilities within SESLHD.

What you will be doing

The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

You will be working in the Ultrasound department, closely with the referring teams to deliver targeted diagnostic imaging. The shifts are Monday to Friday 0830-1630Hrs (Flexible). There is no after-hours service.

Most referrals are Outpatients from the hand clinic and Emergency department referrals.

The Sonographer shall:

  •  Participate in triaging and prioritising the Ultrasound services within a multidisciplinary working environment and is responsible for the provision of high-quality Ultrasound services to patients and our referring clinicians.
  •  Assist with coordination of both clinical and general management of the section as requested by the Deputy Chief Radiographer and the Chief Radiographer.
  •  Participate in triaging and prioritising the Ultrasound services within a multidisciplinary working environment and is responsible for the provision of high-quality Ultrasound services to patients and our referring clinicians.
  •  Work as part of the multi-disciplinary teams and actively participate in SSEH multi-disciplinary team Hand meeting.
  •  Follow safe work practices and comply with Infection Control and Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.
  •  Will undertake training within work areas, actively participate in and contribute to the Medical Imaging Department's continuing professional development (CPD) program and performance and development review.
  •  Will actively participate in Quality Improvement initiatives, accreditation, and research.
  •  Will perform other duties relevant to the award and position as determined by the Chief Radiographer.

Selection Criteria
  1. Post graduate qualification in Medical Sonography and registration with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia as well as NSW EPA Radiation Licence.
  2. Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and proficiency in complex MSK, Vascular, and general sonography procedures without supervision.
  3. Demonstrate an ability to train and supervise qualified and trainee sonographers in ultrasound.
  4. Demonstrate high level of initiative and independent in problem solving.
  5. Demonstrate Collaborative approach to Multi-Disciplinary teams and maintain the respectful and cooperative inter-departmental relationships.
  6. A knowledge of WHS, proper scanning posture and radiation protection practices.
  7. Demonstrate organisational and multi-tasking skills.
