2 Positions are currently available, both Permanent Part Time working 3 days a week. 

Days of working will be negotiated on commencement and will be required to fit within job share/service delivery requirements.

1.      Prince of Wales Aged care, Permanent Part Time Level 1-2. 

Prince of Wales Hospital is a 440 bed tertiary referral facility with specialties unique to this campus such as spinal cord injuries and interventional neuroradiology. A new Acute Service Building opened in early 2023 with state of the art modern facilities aimed at providing an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes. It includes an expanded Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units, a Community Management Centre, and replacement of multiple existing inpatient wards with contemporary facilities. There will also be new research, education and training spaces, including additional spaces funded by UNSW Sydney, to enable clinical innovation and research, biomedical engineering, and clinical translational research laboratories collocated directly alongside clinical staff providing acute healthcare services. 


The hospital is accessible via a light rail service which stops right outside the main entrance, along with a range of bus services. Offering impressive beaches and coastal walks coupled with boutique restaurants, transport links and a vibrant nightlife, you’ll never be short of things to do in this progressive community. 

About the Role:

Knowledge around Aged Care and relevant hospital experience is desirable, although support and training will be offered. The successful candidate would be required to complete psycho-social assessments, discharge planning support, and provide counselling, end of life bereavement care and therapeutic intervention to patients, their families and carers with circumstances unique to aged related issues.

2.      Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital, Permanent Part Time Level 1-2:

Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital is a heritage listed building steeped in history, with a legacy of nursing and medical firsts to its credit and has paved the way in many clinical areas - both nationally and internationally. Sydney Hospital is Australia's first hospital and dates from the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788.  

Our specialist services attract patients from all over NSW. Clinical services provided are a 24hr Emergency Department, and an outpatient departments (eyes, general and hands). Clinical wards include Eyes, Hands, ENT and General Medicine.  

It is located in the hub of the Central Business District, close to the cafe, restaurant and shopping precinct. Our city's famous tourist attractions such as Centre Point Tower, the Domain, NSW Art Gallery, the Botanical Gardens, Mrs Macquarie's Chair, the Opera House and Circular Quay are only short walks away. 

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity exists to become part of the Social Work team at Sydney and Sydney Eye HospitalYou will be working as part of a small team that is passionate about providing patients with high quality care across clinical wards including Eyes, Hands, General Medicine, the short stay unit as well as outpatients.  As a social worker you will complete psychosocial assessments, provide counselling around adjustment to illness and disability, crisis and bereavement support, referral to community services and discharge planning.

Qualifications:

  1. Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  2. Demonstrated core competency skills in psychosocial assessments, individual and family casework, crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy and discharge planning.
  3. A good knowledge of community resources and experience liaising with community organisations.
  4. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery.
  5. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters, commensurate with years of experience
  6. Computer skills and the capacity to use health information systems.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and evidence based practice and a commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
  8. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position) and the ability to participate in the After Hours Crisis On-Call service, and work across a seven day roster (including weekends).
